In the spotlight: Eugenia M. Pena-Yewtukhiw
Our colleagues at WVU Research are featuring the Davis College’s Eugenia M. Pena-Yewtukhiw, assistant professor of soil science, in their Researcher Spotlight feature:
“In a practical way, I would like to help people to use our environment in a smart and environmentally friendly way, by adapting management practices to the changes in climate and human necessities, for example, biofuels production.
“As a field scientist, I am required to understand how complicated, and the high degree of uncertainty that exists in field research. I have started some research on the application of probability sciences to processes related to dynamic soil physical properties. I would like to be able to predict what will happen with agricultural or natural soil systems when we manage and alter them; combining field experiments and strong physical theories, I would like to be able to assess potentially negative situations with a high degree of certainty, by understanding the degree of uncertainty.”
