With the rise of social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook, stories about reconnecting with family members and long-lost friends are becoming commonplace. Jesse Cecil, a 2008 graduate of the Wildlife and Fisheries Resources Program, and Kristi Smith’s story is very similar:

“Who hasn’t heard this one before? Girl’s parents meet boy’s parents in Lamaze class. Girl and boy are born one month apart and grow up as family friends, jokingly referring to each other as girlfriend and boyfriend. Boy moves away at the age of 12 and the two lose touch. Ten years later in college, girl Facebooks boy on a whim and discovers they both attend West Virginia University. Girl and boy go out on a date and end up together, marrying in a vineyard in front of their friends and family.”

Their Aug. 2, 2008 wedding is featured in the June-July 2009 issue of Corridor Magazine, a bi-monthly community and lifestyles publication that explores the people, places and lifestyles of North Central West Virginia.
