Spend your summer on the farm

David | April 24th, 2009

The Davis College wants you to get your hands dirty this summer.

Sven Verlinden, associate professor of horticulture in the Davis College, will be offering PLSC 293C, Student Supported Agriculture, a three-credit-hour course that will allow the class to establish a student-run growing and farming operation.

“This is a chance for students to enjoy a summer of farm-fresh produce, provide the community with healthy and locally produced crops, and to learn about organic and sustainable agriculture,” Verlinden said.

Students in the course will be required to spend nine hours a week working at the Davis College’s Organic Research Farm on State Route 705 near the Mileground in Morgantown. There, students will learn how to grow fruits, vegetables and other crops using organic methods.

For more information on the course, or to register, contact Verlinden at 304-293-6023.
