From the smallest life forms to the most complex social and environmental systems, graduate student research in West Virginia University’s Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences runs the gamut. Davis College students pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees will get the chance to share their scholarly endeavors at the 13th annual Graduate Student Research Conference on Thursday, March 26, in 101 A&B National Research Center for Coal and Energy on WVU’s Evansdale Campus.

“The annual event is a unique opportunity to recognize the many research accomplishments of our talented graduate students and to enhance their professional development,” said Mark Sperow, associate professor of natural resource economics and one of the event’s organizers. “The Conference also provides a forum for the entire Davis College to share information and showcase the breadth and diversity of research activities undertaken by the students and faculty.”

Students will present either a 15-minute oral research paper or a research poster. Ph.D. and MS students will be judged separately in the two categories: oral presentation and poster presentation. For each contest, monetary awards of $200 and $100 will be awarded for first and second place respectively, in both the paper and poster categories.

The event is free and open to the public. Master’s candidates will present their papers from 8:20 to 11:40 a.m. Ph.D. candidates will present their papers from 1 to 4:20 p.m. Master’s candidates will be available to answer questions about their research posters from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Ph.D. candidates will be available to answer questions about their research posters from 1 to 3:40 p.m.
