NGDC open house set for Feb. 5

West Virginia University’s National Geospatial Development Center will host an open house to mark the formal opening of its new office in the Prete Building from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5.

The NGDC is a collaboration between the United States Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service and WVU. After five years on the Downtown Campus, the NGDC has relocated to the Prete Building, 3040 University Ave. Suite 3037, and has become a part of the Division of Plant and Soil Sciences in WVU’s Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Consumer Sciences.

“The mission of the NGDC is to enhance the capacity of the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to produce, utilize, and apply soil, natural resource, and conservation information through the innovative application of geospatial technologies,” said Jim Thompson, co-director and associate professor of soil science. “The NGDC has worked closely with members of the WVU community and local NRCS staff on various projects, and we look forward to greater involvement with interested University researchers and NRCS employees.”

The open house will provide an opportunity for members of the community to meet with NGDC staff and learn about some of its new and ongoing projects.
