NRAC to host seminar Jan. 23

David | January 16th, 2009

The Natural Resource Analysis Center and the Division of Resource Managment will host a seminar by Joe Russo at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, in Assembly Rooms A&B of the National Research Center for Coal and Energy on the Evansdale Campus. The seminar should be of interest to those involved in a wide array of research areas that require or could utilize weather and climatological data. This includes precision agriculture; ecological and environmental modeling; epidemiological and health studies, flooding and other extreme weather events; energy efficiency; and energy systems as examples. NRAC projects have relied on ZedX supplied weather data since the mid 1990s. Advances in technology including near-real-time data availability and the ability to utilize weather data to improve decision support systems are expanding rapidly. Join the NRAC to learn of recent advances, available data and future possibilities. The seminar is open to the WVU campus community and the general public.

Dr. Joseph M. Russo has a B.S. degree in Meteorology from St. Louis University, a M.Sc. degree in Meteorology from McGill University, and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Meteorology from Cornell University. Dr. Russo is a co-founder of ZedX, Inc. and has served as President since 1987. ZedX, Inc. is an information technology company that specializes in the distribution of weather and weather-dependent databases, decision-support tools and the development of custom software and web-based services for the agricultural community. Dr. Russo’s responsibilities include the management of the company’s research and development teams and the strategic planning of products and services.

Dr. Russo will be holding meeting with researchers while on campus regarding current and potential capabilities and research issues. If you are interested in meeting with Dr. Russo or would like additional information, please contact Jerald J. Fletcher, Director, Natural Resource Analysis Center, at 304-293-4832×4452 or jfletch@wvu.edu.
