College honors outstanding staff
West Virginia University?s Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences has chosen its Outstanding Staff for 2008.
College-wide nominations were sought in various categories and award recipients were then chosen by the Staff Recognition Committee.
Physical Plant/Maintenance/Service: Floyd Barber, farm worker, Reedsville Farm
Paul Lewis, Director of the Division of Animal and Nutritional Sciences, ?applaud(s Barber?s) enthusiasm and positive attitude to contribute in any way he can to achieve a task for everyone?s benefit.? Randy Weaver, Reedsville supervisor, cites Barber?s ?dedication to the farm unit? in support of research, teaching and service.?
Paraprofessional/Technical: Denzil Blosser, Davis College health and safety specialist
Craig Lefevre, assistant director of WVU Environmental Health and Safety, says Blosser ?has been proactive in correcting environmental issues? and ?is focused on improving and advancing the college.? Barton Baker, director of the Division of Plant and Soil Sciences, says ?Denzil has made and continues to make our work place safer? and ?is a team player and leader.?
Off-Campus: William Ferrell, supervisor, Reymann Memorial Farm
Sara Hare, a research assistant in the Division of Animal and Nutritional Sciences, states that she ?could not have asked for a more dependable and capable colleague? than Ferrell. Merriner, also a research assistant, says that Ferrell embraces challenges ?with an attitude that makes me, and all the others, want to work with him every day!?
Administrative/Managerial: Sue Myers, manager, Plant and Soil Sciences Greenhouse
Bill MacDonald, professor of environmental microbiology, says Myers ?doesn?t know the expression, ?that can?t be done.?? Tiara King, a graduate teaching assistant in the Division of Plant and Soil Sciences, says that Myers ?creates an atmosphere that is conducive to productivity and learning,? ?nurturing and encouraging students and staff to accomplish the greatest of tasks.?
Clerical/Secretarial: Becky Nestor, senior administrative secretary, West Virginia Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit
Nestor is described as a ?diligent and very competent individual who is a critical part of the Wildlife and Fisheries Cooperative and the (Wildlife and Fisheries Resources) program? by Joe McNeel, Director of the Division of Forestry and Natural Resources. Co-op colleagues say Nestor ?always demonstrated consistently good work and dedication and an ability and willingness to work with others.?
Professional/Non-Teaching: Richard Wood, research aide, Division of Animal and Nutritional Sciences
Andy Holt, supervisor of the Animal Science Farm in Morgantown, says Wood is ?always willing to assist fellow workers when needed and works well with others.? Heather Bungard, a research assistant in the Division of Animal and Nutritional Sciences, says Wood is ?a great person to work with.?
