Equine expert to present lecture 5/2/08
Dr. Edward L. Squires, Professor and Director of the Preservation of Equine Genetics Program at Colorado State University, will present a seminar, ?Recent Advances in Equine Reproduction,? at 4 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2008, in 1021 South Agricultural Sciences. A reception will follow the seminar.
Dr. Squires is a native of Morgantown and an alumnus of the West Virginia University Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences. He is the newest inductee into the UK Gluck Equine Foundation Research Hall of Fame, earning the honor in October of 2007. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from WVU and his Ph.D. in endocrinology and reproduction from the University of Wisconsin. He began his career as an assistant professor in the Department of Animal Science at the University of New Hampshire. A post as professor in the Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology Laboratory in the Department of Physiology at Colorado State University began his effort to focus his research from domestic livestock to the equine industry.
Dr. Squires has distinguished himself as a pioneer in the research development of reproductive technologies for the enhancement of equine reproduction. His research has resulted in significant breakthroughs in artificial insemination, equine reproductive physiology and endocrinology, preservation of semen and techniques for embryo transfer, preservation and manipulation. He has contributed numerous milestones in equine reproduction and has received numerous awards and honors for his work. During his illustrious research career, he has authored over 500 manuscripts, 14 books and 19 book chapters, and he has impacted the careers and lives of numerous graduate students.
The equine and agricultural industry of West Virginia, WVU, and the Davis College are most proud of the success of our alumnus and native of our State. Dr Squires will receive the 2008 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences Alumni Association at its banquet Saturday, May 3.
