Study trip to explore Western Europe
Dr. Sven Verlinden, an associate professor of horticulture in the Davis College and Belgian native, is organizing a Western Europe Study Trip in summer 2009. Travel will take place May 18-30, 2009.
The program will consist of two classes, ORIN175, Western Europe Study Trip, a 3-credit spring course designed to fulfill GEC8 requirements and properly prepare students to travel to Europe, and HORT 493 or equivalent, a 3-credit course for participating in what will be a truly unique experience.
The trip will take students to Belgium, The Netherlands, and Northern France, visiting the cities of Amsterdam, Brussels, and Paris. Students will also explore the environment, natural resource conservation, and agriculture of Europe, by visiting places such as the Delta Works, the largest storm surge barrier in the world, a vineyard in Northern France, the largest flower auction in the world, a Begonia and Azalea nursery in Belgium, and much more. All of this will take place while enjoying everything Europe has to offer in the culinary and cultural field.
